'Decently and In Order' (Part 1)

Our worship to God should be very important to us. It is not to be regarded lightly. As in any other important undertaking, we should have a desire to "do it right" - making it the best we can.

Acceptable worship is achieved through a successful combination of attitude of heart and actual deeds performed. Sincerity of heart will not excuse improper deeds (Leviticus 10:1-3). But, close attention to every detail will not please God if our hearts are not right. (Matthew 23:27-28)

With these basics thus stated, we want to study our worship services in this series of articles. Our goal will be to insure that "all things be done decently and in order" (1 Corinthians 14:40). If you are called upon to assist in conducting the worship services, please consider these preliminaries:

  • You must be living a good life. The old motto 'practice what you preach' and 'actions speak louder than words' are really true. (Read Titus 1:16; 2:7-8)
  • You should realize the importance of what you are doing. Your conduct will affect others in a positive or negative way.
  • About your dress: When you know in advance that you will be involved in conducting the services, please dress appropriately. Tee shirts and jeans are great for some activities, but not for worship.
  • Almost everyone needs to be encouraged to SPEAK UP! What good are your comments if no one can hear or understand?
  • Know what you are doing. For every assigned task be sure that you understand what you are expected to do. If you don't know, be sure to ask.
